The Francis Howell School District is proud to announce that four teachers have earned or renewed their National Board Certification, the highest credential in the teaching profession. The District now has 60 teachers who have achieved this distinction.
The District congratulates Francis Howell North High School teacher Joelle Sanders-Horner, FHSD’s newest National Board Certified teacher, as well as those who have renewed their certification - Angela Canul, Francis Howell Middle School, Julie Castello, Early Childhood Center at Central School Road, and Lindsey Scheller, Francis Howell North.
National Board Certified Teachers are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards. The certification, through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), is a voluntary process in which teachers work to advance the quality of teaching and learning. As part of this process, teachers analyze their teaching context and students’ needs, submit videos of their teaching, and provide student work samples that demonstrate growth in student learning over time.
Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met stringent standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review. NBPTS offers 25 certificates that cover a variety of subject areas and student developmental levels. A National Board Teaching Certificate is valid for ten years with the opportunity to renew certification.
