The Francis Howell School District Board of Education has approved the hiring of Ryan Johnson as a new assistant principal at Francis Howell Middle School, effective July 1, 2019. Johnson is currently the dean of students at Francis Howell High School. He replaces Dr. Patti Lee, who is retiring after the 2018-19 school year.

Johnson is excited about the new opportunity at FHMS. “I am honored and humbled to be joining the awesome staff at Francis Howell Middle School. FHMS is a close-knit family with high expectations of character and academics,” said Johnson. “These values align perfectly with my own, and I can’t wait to do my part to keep this community moving forward. I’m excited to see what the future holds for us!”

Johnson taught Spanish at Francis Howell North for more than a decade before being named the dean of students at FHHS last year. As part of the FHSD Leadership in Education Apprenticeship Program, he has served as a substitute principal at the elementary, middle, and high school level. Johnson also served as a PLC leader, the sponsor of the FHN freshman mentor program, and as a member of the District’s curriculum advisory council. His focus on relationship-building will allow him to effectively partner with students as they make the transition from elementary to secondary education. His experience as an instructional and student-centered leader will also provide the necessary support for the FHMS staff as they work collaboratively to ensure student success.

Johnson was the valedictorian of his class at Truman State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. He also has a master’s degree in secondary education – curriculum and design from the University of Missouri – St. Louis, and a master’s degree in educational administration from Maryville University.
