Erin Thurston to Fill Administrative Intern Position at Francis Howell Middle

With the yearlong military deployment of current Francis Howell Middle School (FHMS) Assistant Principal Dr. Patti Lee, the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) has announced that Erin Thurston will serve as the school’s administrative intern in 2017-18. Thurston has been the FHSD Secondary English Language Arts (ELA) Content Leader since 2012.

“I can’t wait to again be part of the hustle and bustle of a building,” Thurston said. “Interacting with students, working with this administration team, and supporting teachers are going to fill my days with joy this year. I am so excited to become part of the FHMS family.”

As Content Leader, Thurston has planned and facilitated the implementation of the workshop model by teaching lessons, providing professional development, and coaching ELA 6 teachers district-wide, in order to implement the workshop model with fidelity. She also helped revise all secondary ELA, World Language, and Technology Information Literacy curricula to include Missouri Learning & ISTE Standards, and to align them to 21st Century Skills, instructional strategies, and rigor and relevance quadrants.

With the digital age upon us, Thurston has also worked diligently to make sure that classrooms get the resources they need, prioritizing and monitoring budgetary needs. One of the many outstanding budding leaders of FHSD, Thurston puts herself in positions of leadership wherever she goes. Thurston has served on multiple committees in her time in FHSD, including the Common Core Task Force, Professional Development Steering Committee, Curriculum Advisory Council, and Academic Strategic Planning Committee. Her administrative experience includes serving as Middle School Summer School Academy Principal in 2016, and Leadership of Education Administration Program in 2015-16.

Before Thurston was Secondary ELA Content Leader, she taught English at Francis Howell Central High School (2006-12), and at Winnetonka High School in North Kansas City, Missouri. She earned her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University, and her bachelor’s degree in Education from University of Missouri-Columbia.
