Principals are a vital part of a well-oiled school machine, working to supervise teachers and motivate students to get the best out of their education. They have more impact on students than can ever be explained in a short story, but the story of one assistant principal at Francis Howell Middle School, Dr. Patti Lee, might just exemplify how students, staff, and a school’s community value school administrators. For her service, both at home and abroad, the FHMS PTO will be presenting Dr. Lee with a special quilt in November.

While assistant principal at FHMS, Dr. Lee, a member of the United States Navy, was called to serve in Africa during most of the 2017-18 school year. In honor of her service, hard work, and perseverance, the FACE Team, as well as the FHMS community of staff, students, parents, and quilters … will honor her with a patriotic quilt. The quilt design will include facets such as her name, who the quilt is from, and her branch of service.

The FHMS school community and students are organizing a donation drive, with all proceeds going to the creation of the quilt, and any remainder going to the local USO. The donation drive will run from April 9 - April 20. Please bring any donations to the guidance office at FHMS, to Lindsay Weiss (Click her name to email her), eighth grade counselor.

“We are grateful for Dr. Lee’s service to our country as well as her service to our school community,” Weiss said, certainly speaking for the whole FHMS family. “Dr. Lee is passionate about education and strives to create an environment that instills positive student growth. She believes in a team approach by building relationships with students, families, and staff that cultivate the opportunity for students to reach their true potential.”

For any questions about the quilt or donating, please contact Julie Oppermann (click her name to email her), or by calling 636-443-5482.

If you are writing a check, please make the check out to Julie Oppermann. The quilt will be presented to Dr. Lee at the FHMS Veterans Day Assembly in November.
