Teagan O'Donnell with the Board of Education

When FHMS teachers and counselors were asked to recommend a student representative for the October Board of Education Meeting, Teagan O’Donnell was the first name that came to mind. FHMS Principal Dr. Kirsteen James described the well regarded eighth grader as “a hardworking, compassionate student leader who always perseveres.”

Those who know O’Donnell best say that she is always positive and motivated. While working hard to be an Honor Roll student all three years at FHMS, she is also involved in a variety of activities including Drama Club and Shield Club. She also serves as a speaker at all-school assemblies and a WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) mentor and leader.

O’Donnell’s positivity makes her a strong and compassionate advocate for others. She is described as one who “always listens to her peers and truly reaches out to everyone in the school to ensure all voices are heard.” Her guidance counselor shared how “she listens with her eyes, ears, and heart.”

She has a passion for helping others, and will not back down when she is faced with adversity. Her counselor said, “even when Teagan gets knocked down, she gets back up and overcomes.”

O’Donnell certainly has a mature outlook on life and finds different perspectives and ways of thinking. One of her favorite quotes by the Superman character Lex Luthor reflects an appreciation of perspectives. The quote states, “Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it’s a simple story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.”

Teagan is wise beyond her years, which will serve her well as she looks towards the future. She aspires to attend a four-year university when she grows up and plans to focus on a career in mental health and counseling. While she has plenty of time before she heads off to college, it’s evident that O’Donnell is well on her way to making the world a better place!
